Equate Plant-Based Protein Supplement, Rich Chocolate

I’m having the Equate (Walmart generic brand) Plant-Based Protein Supplement in the “rich chocolate” flavor. This is a better deal per gram of protein than any vegan protein powder I’ve found so far and I think it’s just as tasty as the more expensive ones, like the Orgain! So I may just drop the Orgain once I finish my current tub. I like the Orgain just fine, but since it’s almost twice as expensive when I get a bulk tub from Sam’s Club, I see no reason to purchase it again. Like the Orgain, this one has quite a bit of iron. I do plan on drinking vegan whey ones sometimes to get calcium. It’s best to consume those minerals separately since calcium can block iron. Thankfully, I’ve never had a problem with anemia and I still take a small-dose vegan multivitamin with iron so it’s so far not been a big concern for me. But no reason to make it one!

I made this shake by using 30 grams of the powder, which is 2/3 the size on the label, which makes it 20 grams of protein per serving, like the Orgain and the California Performance vegan whey. Since I use a cup of Westsoy soymilk which contains 9 grams of protein, I don’t really need the full serving. That means I can get 28 servings, instead of the 19 the label lists. One would be hard-pressed to find a vegan protein powder for $17.44 for 28 servings.

Now I don’t want to mislead anyone and claim this is like a chocolate milkshake. It’s tasty FOR a protein supplement. Unless maybe you add a bunch of real sugar and a fatty milk, protein shakes aren’t going to be a decadent dessert. However, I’ve also noticed they begin tasting better when you get acclimated to them and eat less decadent foods in general.
