We went to Walmart this morning so we could get out of the house. There have been some rough days, a couple of days it was in the single digits temperature-wise (which our area of the US isn’t really built to deal with) which resulted in rolling power outages and then a bit of an unexpected snow. The main roads were salted but the neighborhood roads looked a bit questionable so we just sat it out at home. However, my son is autistic and he really likes to get out of the house. So during winter vacation, we really need to find something to do for his happiness. Thankfully, the weather has warmed up and the snow melted so we went to the park yesterday and walked, and today we went to Walmart before it got too crazy.
I found these Equate-branded vegan/plant-based protein powders. Not sure how they taste, but they are a better value than the vegan protein powders I’ve been seeing and they have 30 grams of protein per serving. I could either make them with just water instead of high protein plant milk like soy, or just use a scoop or a scoop and a half and stretch it. They were $17.44 for “19” servings. I put this in quotes because I think most people could stretch it and get some more servings out of it. When you think of it like that, it’s a much better deal than Orgain which has 20 grams/serving (10 servings – $21, 27 servings – $30). Of course, I’ll have to see how it tastes. If it’s awful, then personally, I won’t find the value worth it, although I would try my hardest to finish it. It’d have to be really bad before I’d waste it. But who knows? It might be tasty, well, for protein powder. Stay tuned for a review from yours truly.
I also got some Daring plant-based chicken pieces. They have a very realistic texture IMO. The protein is great on them too – the Cajun flavor has 110 calories and 13 grams of protein and the Original has 90 calories and 14 grams of protein. I also got some Morningstar chorizo which I think tastes better than the soyrizo tubes you can find, although I think it might be pricier. I also found these Omni pork dumplings and Omni crab cakes. I’m excited to try those one day! I’ll be back with my opinion on those when I get to them. I also bought a bag of Impossible burger patties. I like to buy the patties because of the portion size. For example, I can take one patty and make my husband and me a small meatloaf or use it to make a pasta dish, etc. I also found these Beyond steak tips and I’m probably most excited about those. Love the nutrition with 170 calories/21 grams of protein per serving. I’ll also, of course, be back with a review on those too. I’m thinking I might make something out of them tonight for dinner.
Wow! Yes, because the equate has 30 g of protein, 17 servings of Equate is actually more like 25.5 Orgain-style servings because Orgain only has 20 g of protein per serving. That definitely is a very good price savings. I saw your other post which said that you do like the “rich chocolate” flavor of Equate. Hurray ! This is very good news ,
