Vegan Breakfast Sandwich with Vegan Sausage, Vegan Cheese; AND! Non-vegan Vegetarian Burrito from Philz Coffee – Fuel for Bridge Inspections

From late February 2023 … my Breakfast Sandwich with Vegan Sausage, Vegan Cheese; AND! Non-vegan Vegetarian Burrito from Philz Coffee! This was Fuel for our Bridge Inspections in late February. In the rain!

A photo of me climbing inside a deep and narrow shaft inside a tower to inspect the steel welds on the bridge.

Been working my butt off with bridge inspections all through December, January and February! We do have some office days, but mostly we are on of inside the bridge structure, climbing ladders, squeezing into small claustrophobic spaces, walking on cables, operating hydraulic lifts where we are hundreds of feet above the water and so on. Yes, we need food!

Yes, I do bring my own vegan food, but I’m also open to eating whatever if it makes sense, like in the case of getting one fully vegan breakfast sandwich plus one vegetarian burrito from Philz. I also brought vegan snacks to share with my coworker. I’ll share that in a separate post!

After the product launch in 2021, I’m glad the vegan breakfast sandwiches are still being offered at Philz in 2023.

I blog about this so that other people can see that they can choose more animal- friendly options at least some of the time without having to become absolutist. No need to become a picky eater if you don’t want to be. Hurray!

Looking up through the inside of the bridge tower … it goes about 450 feet up!

My job is tough, and I’m thankful to be physically fit and healthy enough to do it. I know it’s common for people to assume that a person can’t be healthy without animal products. From what I’ve seen, it’s possible to be healthy on a variety of types of diets. I’m always learning new things about nutrition … for vegan diets, the book Vegan For Life by Jack Norris and Ginny Messina, is a good resource.

Jack and Ginny are both registered dietitians; their websites are science-based and are very helpful for dispelling myths about getting proper nutrition on vegan diets.

We all know how important it is to get the proper nutrition, and that’s why it’s important to educate oneself about the nutrients that we do need, for whatever diet that we plan to pursue. Many thanks to registered dietitians like Jack and Ginny have made updated nutrition information available for people who would like to eat more vegan meals.

As I didn’t grow up learning about how to get proper nutrition from purely vegan meals, Jack and Ginny’s nutrition information has been very helpful to me…I hope it’s helpful to you, too.
